Re-ward Club: Rewarding you for not buying new

Final Farewell

The time has come to say a final farewell. Re-ward Club was fully shut down on the 1st November 2013.

As a not-for-profit scheme, Re-ward Club was totally reliant on government funding through DEFRA to keep it running. In July this year, funding was withdrawn by DEFRA which meant we had no option but to discontinue the scheme.

In August this year, we wrote to everyone with outstanding tokens and encouraged them to send their collected tokens back to us. For every token received, we indicated that we would donate 50p for each one to our community groups. Donations will be made to the selected groups before Christmas.

Want to get more involved with activities to reduce, re-use and repair?

If you’re interested in reducing, re-using, repairing and recycling and you live in the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow or Richmond, why not get involved with the other things we do. There’s more information on our website http://www.westlondonwaste.gov.uk/in-your-area but here’s a brief list:

• Talks and activities to help you save up to £60 a month with Love Food Hate Waste
• Swishing – using your clothes as currency to revamp your wardrobe at no cost
• Reduce and re-use sessions – including games and presentations suitable for all age groups
• Swapping and recycling events – for all sorts of household items including electrical items.

The Re-ward Club team would once again like to thank you for your support with the Re-ward Club project.

If you would like to keep up with some of our wider activities, you can follow us on twitter – @westlondonwaste or you can like our page on facebook!

Regards,

The Re-ward Club Team

Voucher Expiry – Final Reminder!

To All Re-ward Club Members,

We recently let everyone know that the Re-ward Club loyalty scheme will be closing earlier than expected. Hopefully, you would have received either an email or a letter or both outlining why the scheme is closing and what you may need you to do as a result.

In previous messages, we advised that all members were able to collect tokens on any applicable purchases up to and including 30th August 2013. If you collected any Re-ward Club tokens, you now need to log your tokens online or post them back to us as soon as possible.

If you do not have enough tokens to claim your £5 Re-ward Club voucher, a 50p donation will be made to one of our Community Group partners for every token that is attached to an individual’s account. If you would like us to donate your tokens to one of our 9 Community group partners in particular,  please do get in touch with us to let us know.

Please remember that any vouchers presented to any of our retail partner shops  after the 30th September 2013 will not be valid.

Please make sure you spend any Re-ward vouchers before this date. If you have any queries or questions, please contact us by phone on 020 8150 9546 or via email on contact@re-ward.me

Regards,

The Re-ward Club Team

Re-ward Club Important Announcement

The Re-ward Club loyalty card will be ending 5 months early

We’re very sad to let everyone know that last month we were told that the government grant funding for Re-ward Club was being discontinued. We’ve been working behind the scenes to find an alternative source of funding but unfortunately we’ve not been successful so Re-ward Club is closing.

We really appreciate the support given to Re-ward Club by our members, retail partners and nominated community groups. We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has told us what a great idea Re-ward Club is.

Why is it ending?

Re-ward Club was only a trial scheme for 2 years from April 2012 and it is totally reliant on government funding from DEFRA to keep it running. Our pioneering scheme was geared towards changing attitudes and views by encouraging the use of reused, repaired or recycled products. Whilst we have lots of positive feedback and support there hasn’t been enough measurable change to justify continuation of funding.

Research has been carried out during the last 18 months and we hope the results of that will prove to be useful for future work we do and it contributes to wider learning in preparation for the launch of England’s National Waste Prevention Plan later in 2013.

What else do you need to know?

• Members can still collect tokens in the participating retailers until 30th August 2013.
• Re-ward Club Tokens should be logged online or posted back as soon as possible so we can send out any re-wards members are entitled to because Re-ward Vouchers will only be accepted in the retailers until 30th September 2013.
• Even if you don’t have enough tokens to claim a voucher please log them online or return them to us. For every token returned we will donate 50p to one of the community groups supported by Re-ward Club. Call, drop us an email or a note to let us know which community group we should donate to on your behalf.

If you have any questions about the closure please get in touch. You know the ways to contact us but here they are for easy reference – call 020 8150 9645, email contact@re-ward.me or write to Re-ward Club c/o WLWA, Transport Avenue, London TW8 9HF.

• Reduce and re-use sessions – including games and presentations suitable for all age groups
• Swapping and recycling events – for all sorts of household items including electrical items.

We’re keeping the website live and will be using it to signpost you to the places you can re-use, repair and hire locally.

Goodbye for now,

The Re-ward Club Team

Hounslow Community Group – Tiebreaker Vote!

Calling all Hounslow Re-ward Club Members – Only a few voting days left!

Following the vote to choose 3 community groups for Hounslow, we have found ourselves in a position where we have 2 groups already chosen but there is a tie for the final place!

In the interest of fairness, the Re-ward Club Team has decided to put it out to a vote to decide who will be our third and final community group partner. Below are details for the two groups competing to occupy our final community group position, what they do and an outline of how they plan to use the money that you donate to them. Following the descriptions is the link where you can vote. Please have your membership number to hand whilst voting (you cannot vote without it). Please remember to press the SUBMIT button when you have finished voting otherwise your vote will NOT register!

CEDARS

Who we are…
CEDARS provides school and holiday activities for young people, aged 7-18,. Providing them a safe place to ‘chill out’ and take part in sports, arts & craft activities as well as speak to youth leaders about any concerns they may have. Many of the young people that CEDARS cater for have difficult home lives and no positive adult role models. In school holidays, CEDARS arrange day trips and also run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. This year 35 young people are working for their bronze award.

What we’ll use your donations for…
The donations Received from Re-ward Club Members will be used to help fund the cost of the youth leaders, trips out and allow the organisation to buy much needed resources for the clubs.

William Wilberforce Trust

Who we are…
The William Wilberforce Trust is part of the Holy Brompton Church and runs a Furniture Reuse Project in Hounslow. It’s staffed by volunteers undertaking a 16 week Employability Programme, aimed at resourcing and equipping those with major barriers to employment by providing workplace experience, training and mentoring within a growing social enterprise.
The Furniture Re-use Project, based in Brentford, collects unwanted furniture from local homes and businesses (restores them when required) and sells them at very affordable prices to members of the public. Roughly one quarter of all furniture sold goes to low-income households.

What we’ll use your donations for…
Re-ward Club donations would help sustain the work experience for the volunteers and go towards the large running costs of the project. Most of the team on the employability programme are ex-offenders, ex-addicts or ex-homeless and this initiative helps them move on to paid work.

Closing date for voting:  Monday 1st July 2013. We’ll let you know who all 3 selected groups are as soon as possible after voting has closed.

Please click on the link below to go through and vote!

Save money, as well as the Environment

Shopping with Re-ward Club can save you £’s by buying things you would anyway at places you usually wouldn’t. Instead of going to the large High Street shops to buy a new outfit, shoes or books, shop at one of Re-ward Club’s Retail Partners in a shopping area near you. Not only do the items have smaller price tags for the same (if not, better) quality but you can also earn a £5 voucher, saving yet more money.

Buy just a couple of items from our partner retailers to support local businesses, making your money go further and help the environment too, as without you shopping in these places, many of the goods would have ended up in landfill!

Wear it Love it, Share it!

If you have clothes that you no longer wear or want, don’t just throw them away. Swish them! At a Swish you use clothes, shoes and accessories you no longer wear as currency to get items you want in your wardrobe. By Swishing you will get value from the clothes we buy but don’t actually wear anymore.

Bring along clean, good quality items of clothing, shoes or accessories that you no longer wear to swap for other great clothing at West London Waste’s Swishing Events. Find out more about the rules of swishing.
